Grassroots arts programmes in Barking and Dagenham can apply from today for a share of a £1 million pot of funding set aside by the mayor of London.
Sadiq Khan’s micro-grant programme makes between £1,000 and £5,000 available to small organisations and individuals who do not have access to public funding.
The mayor has already invested in two cultural projects in Barking and Dagenham - £50,000 to develop a bid for an area to become a Creative Enterprise Zone and £160,000 for its Borough of Culture bid.
Deputy mayor for culture and creative industries, Justine Simons OBE, said: “Culture Seeds is the perfect project to demonstrate what the Mayor’s draft Culture Strategy is all about – using the power of culture to make a real difference in communities across the capital.
“Small grants can make big things happen and we want everyone to have great culture on their doorstep.”
