Hopes that Dagenham’s three Tube stations might be moved from Zone 5 to Zone 4 have suffered a setback.
Unmesh Desai, London Assembly member for City and East, asked Sadiq Khan to support the change, which would save monthly travelcard users £33.40 a month – but Mr Khan responded by saying he has “no plans to initiate rezoning”.
However council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell has pledged to continue lobbying the Mayor on the issue.
“Historically, our borough has always had a raw deal when it comes to transport,” he said. “Barking and Dagenham is growing as London moves east and I’m determined to use this opportunity to redress the balance for residents.”
A petition has received thousands of signatures and the borough’s MPs also back the proposal.
