A huge blaze has swept through Roding Primary School in Dagenham where more than 80 fire fighters have been at the scene during the night.

Twelve fire engines are battling flames at the school which is due to reopen today after the summer holiday.

The fire broke out around 5am, gutting parts of the building and likely delaying pupils’ return today.

Half of the single-storey building in Hewett Road is on fire, but the Fire Brigade is making progress in tackling the flames.

Crews have had to remove a gas cylinder from the building and have been cooling it down to prevent the risk of explosion.

No injuries have been reported.

Roads have been closed off around the school which was due to reopen tomorrow. It has 1,300 pupils from toddlers to Year 6 aged 11.
