OPENING batsman John Maunders has signed a new one-year contract extension with Essex.
The 28-year-old, who joined the club in 2008, scored 560 runs in 10 County Championship matches last season, at an average of 32.94.
He hit a highest score of 150 and followed that up with two half-centuries, while the former Leicestershire man also snared 12 catches.
Head coach Paul Grayson said: "We are delighted John has decided to extend his stay with Essex, he is a popular member of the team.
"He put strong performances in this season and gave some very good contributions in the Pro 40 and the County Championship. We hope he has a good winter, and comes back next year ready for the challenge ahead.
