COUNCILLOR Val Rush writes (Post, August 12): 'As a council we have never made a public commitment that any residents in the borough will be able to refuse wheelie bins and continue using black sacks.'
Rubbish! Such a commitment was made in writing by the chief executive to Councillor Gerry Vincent.
A promise was given that residents who wished to opt out and continue with black bags would be allowed to do so.
As relayed by Councillor Vincent at a residents' meeting, the promise was not expressed to be limited to residents who had undergone the pilot scheme, but the council is now saying that it is so limited.
