Blue Planet is returning to screens this week, giving viewers a further peek into the depths of our oceans.
The third instalment, Blue Planet III, will once again be narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
The series marks 25 years since the original The Blue Planet first aired and shaped how viewers understand marine life.
The BBC says that Blue Planet III will "venture deeper beneath the waves as David Attenborough reveals ocean life more surprising, more intelligent and more precious than we ever realised."
Blue Planet 3 with David Attenborough set to air on BBC One this weekend
The series, which was first announced in 2022, builds on its predecessors by using newer technology and a deeper scientific understanding to reveal previously unseen behaviours and habitats.
It will use splash drones, remote underwater cameras, and a new ‘mini dome’ camera to capture unique footage from the ocean’s hidden depths.
The broadcaster said: "It will reveal brand new and untold stories from magical underwater worlds.
"Combining our deeper understanding of the oceans with a whole new generation of camera technology including splash drones, long-term remote underwater cameras and a 'mini dome', we can now showcase stunning stories and extraordinary behaviours, previously impossible to film or only recently discovered."
Blue Planet III will focus on the planet’s five key ocean habitats: tropical seas, the open ocean, seasonal seas, polar waters, and the deep.
While Blue Planet II highlighted threats to marine ecosystems, the new series will also share stories of adaptation, hope, and recovery.
The final episode will look to the future of the world’s oceans and what is needed to protect them.
To mark the launch, singer-songwriter JADE and composer Hans Zimmer have created an original song, Into The Deep (Seas Cry).
Written by JADE, Zimmer, and Thom Lukas of Bleeding Fingers Music, the track celebrates the return of one of television’s most influential natural history series.
