People evacuated from a block of flats after a fire tore through a maisonette in Bradwell Avenue have returned to their homes.

Two women from the second-floor flat were pronounced dead at the scene of yesterday’s blaze. Their next of kin have yet to be informed.

Two children and three adults were taken to hospital. Their conditions are considered to be not life threatening.

Twenty-one firefighters and four engines rushed to the building after getting a call at 7.26am. The fire was brought under control more than two hours later.

An investigation into the cause continues with the deaths treated as unexplained.
