More than 19 runners, 15 volunteers and several parents turned out to support the unveiling at the weekly running club which meets in Central Park, Dagenham, every Sunday morning.

Organisers hope to raise awareness and encourage more people to take part.

Kresh Veerasamy, the run’s events director, said: “As an event team we felt that we needed one.

“A number of junior events have purchased one and a lot of people do not know about us so mainly it is there to help us raise our profile.”

The run took place as usual following the unveiling of the flag with many of the four to fourteen year olds breaking their personal bests on the special day.

The junior park run takes place at 9am every Sunday morning.
