CREWS at Dagenham Fire Station have been getting to grips with a brand new piece of life-saving equipment.

A 100ft ladder vehicle arrived last week and came into use at the weekend.

It replaces the old 'cherry picker' hydraulic platform unit and will be used alongside the two fire engines.

Firefighters from the four different watches have been taking training sessions to familiarise themselves with the new kit, which is used to tackle fires from above, and to rescue trapped victims.

The fire station building itself is set to be demolished and a new one built in its place - see page 6.
