NINE TEENAGERS have been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy outside the Broadway theatre.

The youngsters, aged between 14 and 19, were charged with violent disorder following the knife attack in North Street, Barking on October 1.

All nine boys were arrested last week and appeared before District Judge Cott at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Thursday November 13.

Four of the teens were remanded in custody until their appearance at Barking Magistrates' Court on Thursday November 20 and the remaining five were released on conditional bail.

They were told not to contact any witnesses or the victim in the case and to stay at specific addresses.

All five are banned from entering Barking and Dagenham borough except for pre-arranged appointments, such as court appearances.

Judge Cott informed all defendants that any breach of bail conditions would result in their being held in prison until any future trial.

The victim in this case has been released from hospital but is still receiving ongoing medical care.

The 16-year-old was stabbed after an Youth Arts Project anti-knife crime play, performed by Studio Three group at Barking's Broadway theatre.

Passers-by came to the boy's aid after he was chased by a gang; Neil Treanor had been at the theatre with his family that night and discovered the wounded teenager.

While Neil tried to stop the blood coming from the victim's leg his partner called the police.

The boy was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
