NEWHAM UNITED progressed to the next round of the Trophyland Cup after dispatching Spartans Athletic on Sunday.

Captain David Nott gave the Essex Olympian League Division Two side the lead before half-time.

Read doubled the advantage after the interval lashing home Ross Grimes' corner.

Newham will now play Eyehurst Eagles in the next round.

NINE-MAN Newham United reserves scrapped to victory against Clockwork.

The visitors took the lead in the 30th minute, when Leon Lewis skipped past a challenge and stroked the ball into the back of the net.

The home side made it 1-1 before the break, while Paul Collier was the first Newham player to see red in this second half for his second bookable offence.

Daniel Cummins scored an extraordinary goal to give the away side the lead - catching Clockwork's goalkeeper off his line with a shot from inside his own half.

United were down to nine when Lewis was given his marching orders in the 65th minute for a second yellow card, but Demi soon added a third for Newham.

MEATH United were eliminated from the London FA Sunday Intermediate Cup after a seven-goal thriller with Charlton United.

The away side seized the initiative through Paul Linger, but the second period was just three minutes old when the hosts equalised.

Charlton United then took charge and stormed into a 4-1 lead.

The visitors refused to lie down and Timmy Hamley scored twice in the last 10 minutes to set up a tense finish.
