Patients are set for an easier journey to Queen’s Hospital with the rerouting of the number 5 bus.

Transport for London has announced that from Saturday, August 26, the route will no longer serve South Street between Oldchurch Road and Rom Valley Way but instead provide a direct service to the hospital.

The bus will still serve the town centre and Romford station, and will run every seven to eight minutes on weekdays.

The decision has been welcomed by Barking MP Dame Margaret Hodge, who has been campaigning for a direct link from the town to the hospital for many years.

She said: “It is simply not fair that people have had to change buses, and travel for several hours, in order to get to their hospital appointment or to visit a friend or relative at their local hospital.

“I am so pleased that in just a few weeks, we will finally have a direct bus service from Barking to Queen’s Hospital.”
