STRIKER Mark Nwokeji marked his comeback with a goal as Dagenham & Redbridge defeated Charlton Athletic 2-0 in a friendly on Tuesday afternoon.

The 27-year-old, who hasn't played a first team game since January 31, scored four minutes after half time with virtually his first touch, a neat finish from inside the box.

Winger Danny Green had given Daggers the lead on 15 minutes, netting from the penalty spot, after Jack Clark had been adjudged to have hauled down Josh Scott.

Goalkeeper Darren Rudolph went the right way, but there was just enough on Green's effort to beat him.

Chris Lewington produced a good save to prevent Scott Wagstaff equalising, before Billy Bingham sent a shot just wide and Scott saw his effort hit the crossbar.

The Addicks came close to an equaliser, as Dave Mooney hit the post, while Lewington then clawed a header from team-mate Harlee Dean away from danger in the second half.

Nwokeji then put Daggers 2-0 up, before Lewington blocked well from Tamer Tuna, before making two more good saves from Luke Holden and Lewis Perkins.

The returning forward almost had another, but shot wide in the dying seconds as Daggers wrapped up the victory.
