A group of actors who put on the musical Oklahoma! have raised almost £1,000 to help the victims of the devastating tornado that ripped apart the US state the show is set in.

Barking Music and Drama (Barking MAD) held a number of bucket collections before and during their run of the production at the Kenneth More theatre in Ilford in June.

The group had already planned to perform Oklahoma! before the tornado struck on May 20, but when they saw the devastation caused decided they wanted to do their bit to help.

Just under £1,000 was collected and sent to Governor Mary Fallin’s Oklahoma Tornado Disaster Relief Fund towards the end of last month.

Barking MAD’s next show will be the pantomime Beauty and the Beast at the Ripple Centre in Barking from November 28 to December 1.

The Oklahoma tornado killed 23 people, injured 377 and damaged thousands of homes.
