An Olympic medallist will officially reopen a new supermarket in Dagenham next week.

Rower Olivia Carnegie-Brown, who won a silver medal at last year’s games in Rio, will cut the ribbon at the refurbished Aldi shop off Ripple Road.

“I can’t wait to open the Dagenham store,” she said.

The supermarket in Merrielands Retail Park closed for a six-month refurbishment back in February.

Aldi says the store has created 15 new jobs for the local community, with recruitment ongoing for a range of roles.

It will include 259 shared car parking spaces and 1,254 square meters of retail space.

Store manager Kennedy Boateng said: “The team and I are really looking forward welcoming customers into the store.

“We’ve got some great opening week deals on offer that we’re sure the local community will take advantage of while they can.”

The shop reopens at 8am on Thursday, September 7.
