Red-faced Olympic chiefs are handing out hundreds of tickets to compensate for the cancellation of the Paralympic torch relay in Barking.

Games fans were left disappointed after their welcoming celebration went ahead at Barking Park on Wednesday night without the relay following severe delays along the route.

Barking and Dagenham Council indicated the London wide relay had been dogged by “poor planning”.

But Olympic bosses have now awarded about 400 Paralympic Games tickets, mainly for athletics, on Friday evening and Saturday.

A maximum of two tickets per person will be given at Barking Library on the Town Square from 7pm tonight.

They will only be for Barking and Dagenham residents and a proof of address will be needed to collect the tickets.

The three Paralympic sessions are for 7pm on Friday, 10am on Saturday and 7pm on Saturday.
