A practice recently taken out of special measures has opened a new group for mature patients.

The free fortnightly reach-out programme at Barking’s Abbey Medical Centre aims to increase social activity and health awareness for the over 65s.

Nas Hoque, who runs the group for patients at the Harpour Road surgery, said: “We believe this reach-out programme for our elderly patients could show some real health benefits, and could easily be replicated in other parts of the NHS at a local level, if there was enough motivation to do so.”

Free exercise sessions take place every two weeks, with social get-togethers on the last Thursday of every month from 11am-1pm.
