A garden waste collection has been given the green light after 4,000 residents signed up to the scheme.

The paid-for service will now start next month after the £220,000-a-year free collection was discontinued due to lack of funds.

Cllr Lynda Rice, cabinet member for environment and street scene, said: “I’m really pleased to say the new service will definitely be going ahead.

“People can still sign up for a collection later in the spring and summer and I would also to like remind people that neighbours can get together and share a collection if they want.”

The service costs £80 for a two-year service, though residents can also pay in £40 installments.
