Drivers and non-drivers alike are being urged not to respond to fake parking tickets being sent to their email addresses.

A council spokesman said the emails, which ask recipients to click on a link and challenge the penalty, are a “complete scam”, adding: “On no account should you click on to the links in the email. If you do it is likely your computer and possibly your identity will be compromised.”

He said the council does not issue parking fines by email under any circumstances.
