Two people were seriously hurt after having accidents at last weekend’s Dagenham Town Show.

Stunt motorbike rider Connor Elliot, 20, of Squibb Freestyle Team, was jumping off a ramp in the main arena at around 11.40am when he lost control and fell off his bike on landing.

He suffered a suspected broken ankle and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Owner of the company, Jamie Squibb, said Connor had ridden his bike too quickly as he approached the ramp: “I think some people thought it was down to the weather but Connor misjudged the speed.

“He’ll be fine – he’s had worse injuries.”

A second show was due for the afternoon but was cancelled by the council because of the rain.

A teenage girl slipped on the stage during Sunday’s performance with Fusion dance troupe. The unnamed dancer received hospital treatment for a broken nose after the midday performance, according to a caller, who gave his name as Ken.

He said: “The stage was absolutely covered in water. One of the children did a somersault, turned over on her side and fell on her face and broke her nose.”

A council spokesman, however, said: “The girl who had the accident was dancing inside the marked off area, which was dry.”

Over the weekend, police made two arrests for affray and one for being drunken and disorderly in public.
