The swinging sixties and psychedelic seventies were among the decades showcased by youngsters in their celebration of the borough’s 50th year.

With as much flare as flair, the week-long celebration at Godwin Primary School in Dagenham culminated with a special fundraising fashion show last Friday.

Throughout the week, athletes and leaders in their fields gave talks to the young students to inspire them to fulfil their potential.

“We want the kids to know they can be whoever they want to be,” said the Finnymore Road school’s culture coordinator, Angelena Hindocha. “Your story can be whatever you want it to be, you are the author of your story.

“We encouraged the kids to have some fun at the fashion show – and seeing their teachers dress up was a bonus.”

Pupils at Manor Infant School in Sandringham Road, Barking, learnt about the different decades through studying TV and music from the last 50 years, ending with a themed party, and an adaptation of John Lennon’s Imagine.
