A cyclist is fighting for his life after being involved in a crash with a suspected drink driver in Dagenham.

Police were called to Rainham Road South, near the junction with Surrey Road, on Saturday at 6.35pm following reports of a serious collision.

They found the cyclist, a man in his fifties, seriously injured and he was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers believe that two cars, one of which is believed to have been stationary, were involved.

A man in his forties and a woman in her thirties were arrested on suspicion of driving whilst intoxicated.

The man remains in custody at an east London police station while the woman has been released.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command on 020 8597 4874 or 101.
