FIVE HUNDRED pounds was pledged to help Michelle O'Shaughnessy, a mum of three living with cancer, by one kind POST reader.

Caring Barking and Dagenham residents called to donate money this week to buy brave Michelle an electric wheelchair.

But just hours after the POST hit the stands one woman's generosity meant Michelle achieved her target of £899.

Michelle, 39, of Downing Road, Dagenham has terminal bone and liver cancer and cannot get around by herself anymore.

Her mother Colleen pushes Michelle everywhere in a manual wheelchair and takes care of Michelle's children, Tarren, 18, Paije, 13 and Eeden 12.

But Michelle wants to take the strain off her mum and reclaim some of her independence.

Unable to get an electric wheelchair on the NHS Michelle started raising money to buy one and now thanks to the generosity of others she can.

Stunned Michelle received the news on Wednesday May 14 that one caring reader wanted to give the remaining £500 she needed.

The woman has asked to remain anonymous and said she just wanted to do something to help Michelle and her family.

Michelle said: "I just want to thank this lady so much. I can't believe the response already it is so kind of everyone.

"I've heard from friends I haven't seen for years - they're all coming out of the woodwork."

Dozens of POST readers called to send Michelle messages of support telling her to stay strong and not to give up hope.

Michelle's mum Colleen said: "I just couldn't believe it.

"I was in the supermarket and Michelle rang me in tears to tell me a lady wanted to give us the rest of the money.

"This woman has done so much to help us, we are just so happy."

The offers of money to help Michelle are still pouring in and the POST is working with St Francis Hospice to send Michelle on holiday.

Because of her weakened condition Michelle cannot go far and will need a carer with her.

Anyone who would like to donate money to help Michelle and her family get a break they all deserve call Karen Moss on 020 8709 0013.
