Partnership launches project to deliver vital restoration of Chase Local Nature Reserve

A partnership scheme that aims to improve habitats for wildlife by restoring areas of the Chase Local Nature Reserve, held a launch event which encouraged residents to get involved.

Residents were invited to see the final plans for the River Rom Restoration Project which runs from 2017 to 2021, and find out about future events and volunteering opportunities in Grenfell Park, Rush Green Road on Saturday, September 15.

The Land of the Fanns Partnership Scheme will deliver a river and wetland restoration project along the River Rom in Grenfell Park and parts of the Chase Local Nature Reserve.

The project officer took residents on a guided walk of the river, and there was also a scavenger hunt, a wildlife roadshow, opportunities to learn about recycling, children’s crafts and activities at the launch.

Aisling Woodhead, environment engagement officer said: “It went really well, we had a lot of people who were interested in the project.

“The project aims to reconnect the river to the flood plain and increase biodiversity.

“One of the project officers led people on a mini guided walk, for local residents to learn more about the river.”

Heritage Lottery Fund, Thames 21, Havering Council, Barking and Dagenham Council, Environment Agency. Havering Wildlife Project, Thames Water, Roding, Beam & Ingrebourne Catchment Partnership, Veolia Maintenance Trust, Thames Chase Trust and the YMCA are partners on the project.

There will be another River Rom project launch event at the Millennium Centre in The Chase on October 6 for residents who might have missed Saturday’s event to also find out more about the project.
