ELDERLY housebound residents were treated to a free, post-Valentine feast on Tuesday.
Age Concern were prepared to splash hundreds of pounds on the lunch at the Moby Dick pub, Whalebone Lane North, Chadwell Heath, but bosses surprised them, only charging for the drinks.
Befriending co-ordinator Shirley Rice and five volunteers had raised 888 for the pensioners in a six-mile Christmas charity walk in November but thanks to the pub's generosity around 600 remains in the kitty.
Mrs Rice, 48, said: "It was fantastic - I couldn't believe it."
The charity plans to use the spare cash on a cream tea afternoon delighting some of its 114 housebound clients perhaps at Eastbury Manor House, Eastbury Square, Barking, in July.
