PASSERS-BY came to the rescue of a man who was violently attacked by two robbers and beaten over the head with a metal pole.
Shoppers in Dagenham Heathway saw thieves assault the 39-year-old just outside NatWest Bank, where the victim was going to deposit cash.
They rushed to the injured man's aid and the robbers ran off in the direction of Church Elm Lane.
An ambulance arrived at around 1.50pm on Friday April 24 and took the victim to Queen's Hospital.
One of the robbers was caught by members of the public and the other is still at large, he is described as black, aged 18 - 21 and wearing dark clothing.
DC Henry McQuilliam said: "This robbery was foiled by public spirited members of the community who were clearly outraged by such a vicious attack."
