It’s that time of year again, when you’re allowed to heartily indulge your instinct to have a good nosey around and no one will think twice about it.

Open House weekend will see 15 of Barking and Dagenham’s most recognisable buildings swing open their doors to the public this Saturday and Sunday, totally free.

The capital’s popular annual festival of architecture is marking its 22nd anniversary this year with the theme “revealing”. Take part in our quiz marking the event by clicking here.

Following the theme, a guided tour of the Roding Riverside is being included in the borough for the first time, meeting at the Broadway Theatre.

Returning again this year is the free Becontree Bus Tour, which takes in a number of sights in the area over four hours and leaves from Dagenham Civic Centre at 10am on Sunday.

The tour is led by Bill Jennings and operates on a first-come first served basis.

Also open to the public will be Eastbury Manor House, Valence House, The Ice House Quarter, Barking Abbey and the Closed Loop Recycling centre in Dagenham, to name a few.

As well as a chance to showcase the borough’s heritage, Cllr Cameron Geddes, cabinet member for regeneration, said it is also an opportunity to raise awareness of recent investment including the Malthouse and Granary buildings, Barking Learning Centre and the Technical Skills Academy.

“I am proud of our borough’s continued support of the festival,” he said. “This year it gives us the opportunity to raise a wider public awareness of our ambitious plans for regeneration of the borough.”
