Tax credit customers are being urged to renew their claims.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are reminding the 21,900 tax credit customers in Barking and Dagenham to renew their claims by the July 31 deadline or their payments might stop.

Renewal packs are being sent out to some 5.8million people nationwide form late April until the end of June and customers are asked to complete and return the forms them as soon as possible.

HMRC director of benefits and credits, Nick Lodge, said: “Our message to people in London is renew early, renew accurately and renew on time.”

He added Universal Credit, which will take over all Tax Credit claims by 2017, will also be introduced this year and it was important claimants made sure the data held by HMRC about their claim is accurate.
