FURIOUS neighbours have blasted the council after they failed to repair a wall which crashed down in high winds more than two weeks ago.

The free-standing wall which separates houses in Dagenham Road, Dagenham, from a block of flats, collapsed on Saturday, January 17.

It was a particularly stormy night, and after families reported the wreckage council officers arrived to tidy up the debris.

But the wall has not been rebuilt, and residents now say that the gap between the houses and flats is an ideal escape route for thieves. Householders say they have had possessions stolen from their gardens and sheds.

Householder, Martin McClenaghan, had his garden fence crushed when the bricks gave way. He said: "I was at home the night the wall fell and heard a huge crash. If anyone had been in the garden at the time then they would have been crushed to death.

"Now my fence is wrecked, and I can't let my dog out into the garden because he might escape.

"The council came round to clear away the bricks but since then they have done nothing.

A council spokesman said: "We apologise for any delay, but the repair of the damaged fence is being looked into, and a site visit is planned for this week." FURIOUS neighbours have blasted the council after they failed to repair a wall which crashed down in high winds more than two weeks ago.
