A VIOLENT assault resulted in a road closure after a woman is thought to have been bottled in the face after a party.

Police were called to Reede Road, Dagenham, on Sunday (December 7) at 4.30am, where the 31-year-old had received injuries to her face during a row.

Police believe the injuries may have caused by a bottle.

The woman, from Dagenham, was taken to Queens Hospital, Romford, where she was said to be recovering from the assault on Monday afternoon.

Her injuries were said to be not life threatening.

A large section of Reede Road was closed off until Sunday morning meaning the annual Leukaemia Care Santathon charity run had to be redirected via Rogers Road.

Organiser Paul Gwinn said: "We heard in the morning that an incident had taken place in Reede Road in the early hours, and police had cordoned it off.

That was part of our route, but we managed to quickly alter the course in time."

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said an ambulance had been called to Reede Road at 4.40am, and an adult female had been taken to hospital after reports of an assault.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault.
