A RUTHLESS burglar conned his way into an elderly woman's home and stole her pension.

A man knocked on the 88-year-old pensioner's door and claimed that children had kicked a ball into her back garden on Sunday afternoon, March 9.

She left the door open when she went into the garden to look for the ball but when she returned the man had left with her pension and her travel card.

The suspect is white, around 50 years old with shoulder length, scruffy black hair, slim, 5.6in tall, clean shaven, wearing a black overcoat and he was polite with a local accent.

Police are reminding residents to use chains on their doors to always shut the door, ask for identification and not to leave bags and purses on display.

Anyone who has information should contact Detective Constable Tony Lane on (020) 8217 5564 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
