A fun run set to raise thousands for Saint Francis Hospice was cancelled due to the snow.

The annual 5km Santathon was due to start at Dagenham and Redbridge’s Victoria Road ground yesterday morning.

But following a blanket of snow covering London overnight, the hospice decided to cancel the event in the interests of safety.

But for the hundreds of runners who were aiming to pound the streets of Dagenham, their training was not in vain - the run has been provisionally rearranged for Friday, March 30.

It is the second time the Santathon has had to be delayed until the spring due to snow - in March 2011, eyebrows as well as funds were raised as runners took to the streets in Santa costumes just weeks before Easter.

The hospice is set to get in touch with those who had signed up over the coming days with more information about the rearranged run.
