ANDRE OLLEY, still smiles about the shock success of his Peacock BC hopes on last year's ABA title trail - and looks for his prospects to earn more glory in the 2009 competition which gets underway on Friday night.

The national title trail gets off to its usual start with the North East London Divisional Championships, but at an unusual venue - Dukes Hall, Maygreen Crescent, Romford.

"It was great for a club like ours to win more London titles than the big names like Repton last year - and we'll be doing our best to do the same this year," warned the Peacock coach, who was a former heavyweight at Barking Boxing Club.

Bethnal Green's Repton BC plan their usual army-sized entry, but the Canning Town club are again lining up a useful looking squad to start the title chase on Friday.

The Peacock entries include tall cruiserweight Ricky Newland, who reached the national final last year, and Wadi Camacho, a power-punching heavyweight, already called into the national ABA training squad.

West Ham look to former junior star Dudley O'Shaughnessy to make his mark in a packed welter class, that also includes Newham entry Jamie Anthony.
