HAVERING MAYESBROOK athlete Sara Luck won gold in the 2,000m steeplechase in a new meet record at the South of England and Senior Championships in Watford last weekend.

The talented athlete put in a sterling performance to come home in five minutes and 58 seconds, while the club collected another five medals.

Lucy Sargent showed she is back to her best with a brace of silver medals in the sprints. On Saturday she clocked one of her fastest ever 100m times in placing runner-up to her old rival Milton Keynes' Joey Duck in 11.78 and on Sunday, Duck again got the upper hand in the 200m where Lucy dipped below 24 seconds with 23.99.

Nicola Hill recorded her second fastest 400m hurdles time of her career when she took under-20 silver in 1.01.05. Georgie Bean added under-20 javelin bronze with a 52.67m throw. Another bronze medal came from Harriet Scott, who was very close to her PB with 2.06.61 in the 800m.

Kike Oniwinde broke her week-old under-17 and under-20 javelin record when she launched the 600kg spear 43.73m to finish fourth in the under-20 event.

Other finalists were Mel Harrison (fourth in the discus and shot), Chloe van Wulven (fifth in the senior 100m hurdles), Brad Reece was sixth in the under-20 hammer. Emmanuel Quarshie was fifth in the under-20 shot putt, Adam McCarthy was sixth in the under-20 400m hurdles.

Emma Christmas came sixth and Sam Harrison eighth in the women's and men's senior javelin respectively.

Meanwhile, the Young Athletes' squad saw off a strong challenge from hosts St Albans to make it four straight wins, and strengthen their NYAL promotion chances on Sunday.

The under-15 girls produced their best form this year. There were sprint maximum points thanks to Ricarda Chapman and Lucy Allen (100m) and Allen again as well as Annie Adewole (200m).

Amanda Blaxland and Avril Loynes impressed with a 1,500m double and Jess Fazakerley won the B 800 and the B high jump.

Becky Lawrence won the A high jump and Annie Adewole took the A shot, and Avril Loynes the B discus.
