CUBS and scouts are celebrating after getting planning permission to move into a brand new home.

The 1st Barking and Dagenham Scout Group are to redevelop a derelict building near the Thames View Estate.

Their new hut will be the former Bellway Homes site office in Blessing Way.

Councillors on the development control board approved the scheme despite a petition of 38 names objecting.

Some residents were worried that the hall will attract noise, traffic, vandalism and litter.

But a planners' report said benefits to the community far outweighed the drawbacks.

The scout group's current home in a church hall in Bastable Avenue, has nowhere to store their equipment.
