There’s another chance to register your dog’s DNA on Saturday.

Head to Mayesbrook Park in Dagenham between 8.30am and 4pm to sign up to Barking and Dagenham Council’s trailblazing pilot.

About 160 dog owners have already registered their pets for the scheme which is the first of its kind in the country.

It aims to wipe out the problem of dog mess that is being left behind by inconsiderate dog owners.

Cllr Darren Rodwell, leader of Barking and Dagenham council, said: “Things are going really well and I’ve seen we’ve had some interest from other councils too in introducing a similar scheme, including Ealing.”

The three month pilot covers three wards in the borough – Abbey, Mayesbrook and Longbridge.

The first 1,000 owners can register for free with animal DNA specialists PooPrints UK.

Gary Downie, the company’s managing director, said: “It’s been an overwhelming response. We haven’t had a paws to think!”
