Cyclists will be able to enjoy traffic-free roads this Sunday as streets in Barking and Dagenham are closed to make way for Sky Ride.
The six-mile event is part of a nationwide campaign to get one million people on their bikes by 2013.
Riders will be able to travel past landmarks such as the Broadway Theatre and through Barking and Mayesbrook Park, which will host activity areas.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “Sky Ride is the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and show the true spirit of London by taking to two wheels and celebrating all that is great about out city.”
Cllr Gerald Vincent, cabinet member for environment, said: “It’s a fantastic chance for the residents of this normally busy borough to gather families, grandparents, friends and cyclists of all ages and abilities and enjoy the traffic free streets for one day only. With all the entertainment planned, it should be a great opportunity for everyone to see our borough as they have never seen it before.”
The ride is free for anyone to attend and will take place between 10am and 4pm. For more information and to see the full route visit www.goskyride.com/llbd
