DAGENHAM songbird Stacey Solomon may not have won the X-Factor talent contest last month but she is using her new-found fame to champion local trade.

The council's recent Buy Local campaign seems to have caught on as 'Dagenham Stacey' donned a bargain cream chiffon dress from Dagenham Market for the premier of Cirque Du Soleil's Varekai at the Royal Festival Hall last week.

The 20-year-old, who wowed judges and audiences all over the country with her beautiful voice and bubbly personality on the ITV talent show, told a national newspaper: "I got dressed in loads of nice, expensive stuff on the show but this is from Dagenham Market.

"I really liked this when I saw it."

A few days later, on Friday (January 8), she opened the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show together with fellow X-Factor finalist Olly Murs at the ExCel Centre, Docklands.

Stacey seems to be returning the favour to many local businesses after they supported her by putting up 'Vote Stacey' posters in the run-up to the finals.
