The planets aligned to bring together cast members of Star Wars, Doctor Who and Thunderbirds at a celebrity signing

event on Saturday.

Terrence Hardiman, Nigel Betts, Ann Holloway and Natalie Burt, all from Doctor Who, were just some of the actors taking part in photoshoots and signing autographs for scores of fans in Barking Learning Centre.

Event organiser, Derek Hambly, said the chance to get up close and chat to their favourite stars as well as get memorabilia signed means such events are always popular.

Even if fans do sometimes surprise the celebrities with their requests.

“Years ago Ann Holloway appeared in a film with Cliff Richard,” Derek said, “And fans brought along albums, on vinyl and CD, for her to sign.”

However, if you think science fiction is just for geeks it’s time to think again. Derek, 59, who has been organising similar events for more than 20 years says they appeal to fans both young and old.

“People come from right across the board,” he said. “Doctor Who has been going for over 50 years. The new series brings along a new audience. Young fans know all the old actors.”
