A CARING young woman took the Breast Cancer Break-through £1,000 challenge after her mother was diagnosed with the illness two years ago.
April Phillips, 21, from Wood Lane, Dagenham was so passionate about helping to find a cure that she set up her own charity fun day.
It will be held on September 20 this year although April is yet to find a suitable venue for the event which will feature several celebrities.
April is hoping to hire a hall for the day from the council; this will cost around £145 which April is raising at the moment.
So far she has collected an amazing £648 for the charity but still needs a little help to reach her goal.
April said: "I took up raising money for Breast Cancer because of my mum.
"She had to have two operations and radio therapy, she still goes for check ups every six months but she is much better now."
April got involved in Breast Cancer Break-through when she bought some items from their online auction.
She said: "When I paid for the items I won they sent me a form to see if I would be interested in raising money for them.
"So I filled in the form and thought I would write to celebrities to see if they would help me by sending signed photos I could auction online."
April added: "I took up fundraising in 2006 and this year I thought I would see if I could do an event with celebrity appearances."
Once April has raised £1,000 her name with be engraved on the wall at the Break-through Breast Cancer centre, to signify her contribution.
Special guests include; Rupert Ward-Lewis, who played PC Wetherby on Heartbeat for many years, Oliver Lee who was Josh Jones in Hollyoaks in the City, former Big Brother contestant Spiral and Cassie Powney who also starred in Hollyoaks.
Also volunteering at the day are Chris Geere, who plays Matt Wilding on Waterloo Road, Shabana Bakhsh, who starred in the soap Doctors and Tracey Childs who is famous for her roles in Howard's Way and Doctor Who.
There are several more celebrities yet to be disclosed and April is working hard to ensure as many famous names as possible.
