BARKING station will get a share of 50 million government cash to carry our urgent improvement work.
It is one of ten stations across the country identified as being most in need of a major modernisation.
The money will be spent on improving facilities such as parking, shops, and information.
Transport Secretary, Lord Andrew Adonis, paid a visit to Barking Station yesterday morning as part of a lightning tour of all ten sites set to benefit from the fund.
More than 3bn is already being spent on stations over the next five years but the report said Barking and the other nine stations were in need of urgent attention.
It has not yet been announced when the work will begin.
