HAINAULT Roads Club rider Mark Steers surged to fifth place in the Diss & District Medium Gear time-trial in Norfolk on Sunday.
The event is restricted to participants riding machines limited to a single medium gear, which is calculated as the distance travelled for one complete pedal revolution of 18 foot 10 and a quarter inches.
Steers described the event as being raced on "an interesting course and particularly undulating".
But riding his fixed-wheel bike, the Ilford resident completed the 25-mile course in a time of one hour six minutes and 50 seconds.
The event was won by Lee Desborough of Ely & District CC in 1:02.50.
