ILFORD AC had a trio of members contesting Tuesday evening's Open 3,000 metres walking race at Ashtons Track, which was the curtain-raiser to Woodford Green's graded meeting.
In warm conditions, it was former international Amy Hales from Chelmsford who showed a clean pair of heels to allcomers, winning in a time of 15 minutes and 35 seconds.
Ilford's Steve Uttley claimed second place in 15.51. Indeed, his time was worthy of praise, as coming straight from work in haste, he started without warming-up! Completing the frame was clubmate Steve Allen with 16.19 on the stopwatch.
Further down the order, Micky Sutton made a return to racing for the first time since completing 100 miles three weeks ago. Still showing the effects, he grimaced his way around the track to fill ninth spot in 22.45.
