Students from the Technical Skills Academy at Barking and Dagenham College showed off their creativity while competing in the WorldSkills competition heats last week.

The competition brings students together to showcase various vocational skills and the winners go on to a national final.

Chloe Peterkin, 17, from Grays, won second place in the media make-up competition after impressing the judges with her Hollywood glamour theme incorporating hair and make-up techniques.

Fellow student Natalie Kennell, 19, from Barking, scored highly for her musical theatre-theme make-up in which she used body paint and prosthetics.

Lee Demmel, operations manager at the college commented: “We are really proud of Chloe and Natalie. Taking part in competitions like this is really daunting but the girls performed brilliantly. It has really helped focus their skills and has also been a chance to showcase the amazing talent that our students have. To score so highly in their first WorldSkills competition is a great achievement.”
