NEWHAM SWORDS Fencing Club is celebrating its greatest season ever in terms of international success.

Thirteen-year-old Rajan Rai had already competed for the England under-15 team in February, while Ife Kubler, 14, and Alex Savin, 15, will represent Great Britain at the under-17 European Championships in Athens next month.

Club members Amol Rattan and Ife Kubler are also due to compete at the under-17 World Championships in Azerbaijan in April.

Rai gained his England colours after winning the 2009 under-13 age group of the Leon Paul Junior Series, whilst Kubler, Rattan and Savin gained their GB selection after finishing in third, third and fourth positions respectively in the GB under-17 rankings.

"This is a great achievement for the club and for Newham," said head coach and former Olympic fencer, Pierre Harper.

Fellow Olympian Linda Strachan added: "We are so proud of what the fencers have achieved in such a short space of time."

Kubler, Savin and Rattan will be joined at the Cadet Europeans and Cadet Worlds by the GB number two-ranked Kristjian Archer, who is also coached by Harper.
