WOODFORD Golf Club's captain, Mark Deeming, squeezed home by the narrowest of margins in the May monthly medal.
Playing off a handicap of seven, Deeming registered a nett 67 to pip 12-handicapper Zekia Alsanjak on countback.
The Division Two medal was won by Eion Botha with a nett 70. Despite carding a 12 on one hole, Botha finished one ahead of former captain Michael Jones with a nett 71.
In the Thornton Cup, Woodford lost 11-4 at Lords (Rayleigh). Following a 5-0 deficit in the foursomes, they staged a fight-back in the singles with three wins and two halves, but it was not enough.
