An ecstatic couple have tied the knot at the college where they first met.
After making a connection at Barking and Dagenham College as teenagers, Ashley Green and Akira Johnson revisited the Rush Green campus for their wedding reception on Friday – fifteen years after a mutual friend introduced them outside a sports hall.
“It was really, really really well,” enthused Akira, now 33, who has been with Ashley, 31, ever since. “It was a very special moment for us to be back where we met.”
The pair, who live in Dagenham with their two children aged five and 11 months, enjoyed a ceremony at St Albans in Ilford before the student-curated reception at the college.
“The weather was amazing, so hot,” said the mum-of-two. “It all went so quickly, I felt so shy.”
Akira admits Ashley’s proposal at the end of the Grand Pier in Teignmouth, Devon, was “completely unexpected”.
“I think he was quite overwhelmed by the wedding,” she added. “He hadn’t been back there since we were students!”
