AS A homeless African-American youngster from a broken home, American football star Michael Oher was taken in by a well-to-do white family who helped him fulfil his potential.

Michael worked hard and, with the help of his coaches and adopted family, became an all-American football hero.

THE BLIND SIDE (12A), the movie which tells his remarkable true story, also helped its leading lady Sandra Bullock fulfil her potential - she won an Oscar.

She says: "The beauty of the story is that you think it's one thing and it turns out to be something else, and those are usually the best things in life.

"I thought the script was going to be about football until I read it and realised that it's really about family.
