The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Barking and Dagenham this summer, as part of the borough’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The news of the royal visit, which will take place on Thursday, July 16, was announced by council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell at last night’s assembly meeting where it was met with applause.

“Barking and Dagenham is evolving into London’s growth opportunity for business and regeneration and the visit by Her Majesty will give us the chance to show a wider audience how we are growing the borough,” he said.

“We are a borough brimming with the best of British talent and Her Majesty’s visit will enable us to promote this.

“I’m sure that our borough residents will be excited to hear this news and will give Her Majesty a warm welcome on the day of her visit.”

Further details of the visit will be announced nearer the time.
