CLAPTON were grateful for a Champagne moment last weekend when a late equaliser handed them a draw at home to Stansted.

Craig Wood's 15th minute strike had given the visitors a flying start at the Old Spotted Dog and they looked like holding out for the win.

But Akeem Champagnie fired home five minutes from time to level the scores and earn Clapton their first points of the season.

Bethnal Green United were in League Cup action, meanwhile, and enjoyed a resounding 4-1 win at Barking.

Marlon Campbell was the hero on the day, firing a hat-trick after Daniel Lee Sabaroche had put them ahead after eight minutes.

Campbell grabbed his first 12 minutes later, and then made it 3-1 on 48 minutes.

Ruel Sandiford grabbed one back for Barking after the hour mark, but Campbell fired home again on 78 minutes to complete the rout.

Clapton and Bethnal Green take their first steps on the road to Wembley this Saturday when they take part in the FA Carlsberg Vase first qualifying round.

Clapton take on Hoddesdon Town, while Bethnal Green travel to Ampthill Town in Bedfordshire to take on the mid-table side who won 3-1 at the weekend.
